Single or double storey? How to choose

The right storey count comes from what is short in the house, not from what the neighbour built.

Choose one storey when

  • The kitchen is the problem and the bedrooms are fine.
  • You want the garden closer, not another room upstairs.
  • The budget should stay in glazing, the kitchen, and the structure that opens the back wall.

Choose two storeys when

  • You need a bedroom or a bathroom as well as a larger ground floor.
  • The side or rear can take the height without a bad outlook for neighbours.
  • You would rather scaffold once than extend again in five years.

A double-storey extension costs more than stacking two single-storey prices, because the foundations, the roof, and the planning constraints all change. We price the option you actually need.
